In the latest issue of Beef Magazine that we received, there was a great article that I thought I would share... It is based on the book "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes. I have not read the book, and I am not sure if I will or not. Apparently, it's written more like a textbook than a non-fiction book.
Anyway, the articles says that Taubes believes that USDA's “Dietary Guidelines for Americans” promotion of a low-fat, high-carb diet maybe causing the problems with obesity in America. His point is that it is the kind of calories we take in — good or bad — not the number.
Anyway, check out the article here.... Big Fat Lies?
I would love to get some comments on how you feel about this...

When I injured my back in 1977 I spent some time researching nutrition. A few years of casual investigation led me to the same conclusions Gary Taubes arrived at. So my family was raised on a high-fat/low-sugar diet. And we all consume foods rich in saturated fat with reckless abandon.
The article you linked to was good except for the paragraphs near the end extolling the virtues of eating more protein. If anything, what people need more of in their diets is saturated fat; especially the saturated fats found in grass-fed dairy, beef, and pastured pork. It's been noted, you are what you eat. According to Michael Pollan, "You are also what what you eat eats."
Good article. A balanced diet and exercise are always a good guideline. 'Shopping the perimeter of the market helps keep us eating healthy foods. Like David stated, "You are what you eat." I like his final sentence too.
